Though I first tweeted and posted about the “Tweet” Twitter trademark application in late April, it is finally (early July) getting the attention it deserves as a result of an anonymous email sent to Techcrunch where Twitter is not happy with a third-party application developer and their use of the word “Tweet” in their application.
See Frank Reed on how Twitter is “uncomforable” with “the use of that [Tweet] trademark in the naming of any third party app” - Twitter Gets ‘Tweet-itorial’
Though the news was really broken by Techcrunch in two separate posts:

Twitter To Developers: “Tweet†Your Heart Out, But Don’t “Twitter†It
CNET was pretty quick to cover the Techcrunch email revelation:

Please note that you cannot link directly to the USPTO application. People are trying to do so, but the search function expires and the link will not work. You must follow my directions! Find Twitter’s Tweet Trademark Application.
